उन्होंने कहा, “एक बार जब एचआईवी एड्स में परिवर्तित हो जाता है तो यह शुरुआती लक्षणों जैसे अस्पष्टीकृत थकान, बुखार, जननांगों या गर्दन के आसपास घाव, निमोनिया आदि में उपस्थित हो सकता है। डॉ चौटी ने लक्षणों के बारे में बताते हुए कहा, “चरण 1 के दौरान, संक्रमित होने के 2-3 सप्ताह के भीतर, लगभग दो-तिहाई लोगों को फ्लू जैसी बीमारी हो जाएगी। आपको बुखार, ठंड लगना, चकत्ते, रात को पसीना, मांसपेशियों में दर्द, मुंह के छाले, गले में खराश, थकान और लिम्फ नोड्स हो सकते हैं। ये लक्षण कुछ दिनों से लेकर कुछ हफ्तों तक रह सकते हैं।
“चरण दो, जिसे नैदानिक विलंबता के रूप में भी जाना जाता है, कोई विशेष लक्षण नहीं दिखा सकता है। इस चरण को क्रोनिक एचआईवी संक्रमण भी कहा जाता है। यह लंबा हो सकता है और 10 साल तक भी चल सकता है।””चरण तीन एड्स है जिसके परिणामस्वरूप शरीर की प्रतिरक्षा प्रणाली कमजोर हो जाती है। लक्षण तेजी से वजन घटाने, आवर्ती बुखार, रात को पसीना, अत्यधिक अस्पष्ट थकान, सूजन लिम्फ नोड्स, पुरानी दस्त, मुंह और जननांगों में घाव, निमोनिया, तंत्रिका संबंधी हो सकते हैं। विकार, अवसाद, स्मृति हानि और यह त्वचा पर चकत्ते के रूप में भी प्रकट हो सकता है।
