महाराष्ट्र: कवि शब्दों की दुनिया में उपासक स्वरुप होता है, करुणा, दया, क्षमा, याचना, प्रार्थना,उपासना, प्रेम ये सब बालक कवि के प्रेमी मित्र होते है। वह कवि इन छोटे शिशु सखाओं के साथ अठखेलियाँ करता रहता है, बाल लिलाएं करता रहता है, इसीलिए कवि रमता योगी कहलाता है। शब्दों की साधना से साध लिया जीवन अपना, शास्त्रों में पारंगत हासिल कर नये शब्दों का अविष्कार करे, वही श्रेष्ठ कवि, लेखक, साहित्यकार बन जाता है।
हिन्दुस्तान की पहली कविता आलाखण्ड दसवी शताब्दि में लिखी गई थी। जिसके लेखक जगनीक थे, वह हिन्दुस्तान पर इसी काल खंड से बाहरी आक्रमण शुरु हुए थे। कभी वे हारे कभी हम हारे, यह दौर अंग्रेजों के जाने तक क्रमशः चलता रहा है। तब से कवि प्रथा चली आ रही है। जनता को जागरूक करने के लिए अनेक कवियों ने समय-समय पर अनेक कविताएं लिखी थी। वह चेतना (जोश) का संचार किया है। हम कवियों ने कभी युद्ध का समर्थन नहीं किया है, पर अपने स्वाभिमान पर होता प्रहार देख युद्ध व स्वाभिमान का अन्तर भी भली भांति जानते है। तब से लेकर वर्तमान तक यह कविताओं का दौर चल ही रहा है। नये जमाने के कवि प्राचीन इतिहास को जानकर अपने-अपने तरीके से रचनाएं लिखते है।
