सुरक्षा बलों को वहां आतंकवादियों की मौजूदगी की सूचना मिलने के बाद मुठभेड़ स्थल सोपोर इलाके का सीर गांव था। भारी गोलीबारी के बाद तलाशी और घेराबंदी अभियान शुरू किया गया था।
सोपोर में मुठभेड़ जम्मू-कश्मीर पुलिस द्वारा सोमवार को आतंकी संगठन लश्कर-ए-तैयबा के दो शीर्ष कमांडरों द रेसिस्टेंस फोर्स (TRF) को मार गिराने के कुछ घंटों बाद हुई।
एक वरिष्ठ पुलिस अधिकारी ने कहा कि टीआरएफ के प्रमुख मोहम्मद अब्बास शेख और मोहम्मद अब्बास शेख श्रीनगर के अलोची बाग में पुलिस के साथ “एक संक्षिप्त गोलीबारी के बाद एक त्वरित खुफिया-आधारित अभियान” में मारे गए। अधिकारी ने कहा कि दोनों आतंकवादी कई हत्याओं के लिए जिम्मेदार थे और उन्होंने युवाओं को आतंकी रैंकों में शामिल होने के लिए भी प्रेरित किया।
“हमें इलाके में उनकी मौजूदगी के बारे में जानकारी थी। पुलिस के दस जवानों ने नागरिक पोशाक पहनकर तुरंत इलाके को घेर लिया और फायरिंग करने वाले आतंकियों को ललकारा। जवाबी गोलीबारी में, दोनों मारे गए, ”कश्मीर क्षेत्र के पुलिस महानिरीक्षक विजय कुमार ने एक संवाददाता सम्मेलन को संबोधित करते हुए कहा।
