मंगलवार की कीमतों में बढ़ोतरी एक हफ्ते की अवधि में छठा संशोधन था, जिसमें देश भर के कई शहरों में ईंधन की कीमतें 100 रुपये से ऊपर हो गई थीं। इसी तरह, 11 दिनों में कीमतों में नौवीं वृद्धि ने अधिकांश शहरों में डीजल की कीमतों को 100 रुपये से ऊपर कर दिया।
ताजा कीमतों में बढ़ोतरी के बाद तमिलनाडु की राजधानी चेन्नई में पेट्रोल 100.23 रुपये प्रति लीटर और डीजल 95.59 रुपये प्रति लीटर पर बिका।

सार्वजनिक तेल रिफाइनर इंडियन ऑयल कॉरपोरेशन, भारत पेट्रोलियम और हिंदुस्तान पेट्रोलियम ने अंतरराष्ट्रीय स्तर पर तेल की कीमतों में तीन साल के उच्चतम स्तर को छूने के बाद 24 सितंबर को दैनिक मूल्य संशोधन की सिफारिश की। इस बीच, ओपेक + समूह द्वारा तेल उत्पादन में क्रमिक वृद्धि के लिए मौजूदा समझौते से चिपके रहने का फैसला करने के बाद मंगलवार को कच्चे तेल की कीमतों में गिरावट आई, रॉयटर्स ने बताया।
सोमवार को 2.5 प्रतिशत की वृद्धि के बाद, ब्रेंट क्रूड 3 सेंट की गिरावट के साथ 81.83 डॉलर प्रति बैरल पर 0054 GMT था। जबकि यूएस वेस्ट टेक्सास इंटरमीडिएट (डब्ल्यूटीआई) तेल पिछले सत्र में 2.3 प्रतिशत की बढ़त के बाद 10 सेंट गिरकर 77.52 डॉलर पर आ गया।
