करवा चौथ व्रत विवाहित महिलाओं द्वारा मनाए जाने वाले सबसे महत्वपूर्ण व्रतों में से एक है। विवाहित महिलाएं करवा चौथ का सूखा व्रत रखती हैं और पति की लंबी उम्र, सुखी वैवाहिक जीवन और अखंड सौभाग्य की प्राप्ति के लिए चौथ माता की पूजा करती हैं। रात को चांद देखकर और अर्घ्य दान करके व्रत तोड़ें।
करवा चौथ उसी दिन पड़ता है जिस दिन संकष्टी चतुर्थी होती है, जो भगवान गणेश को समर्पित एक उपवास का दिन है। विवाहित महिलाएं अपने पति की लंबी उम्र के लिए करवा चौथ का व्रत और अनुष्ठान करती हैं। विवाहित महिलाएं भगवान शिव और उनके परिवार की पूजा करती हैं, जिसमें भगवान गणेश भी शामिल हैं, और केवल चंद्रमा को देखने और चढ़ाने के बाद ही अपना व्रत तोड़ती हैं। करवा चौथ का व्रत सख्त है और सूर्योदय के बाद रात में चांद दिखने तक बिना कुछ खाए-पिए मनाया जाता है।
