दिल्ली उच्च न्यायालय ने 23 वर्षीय व्यक्ति की हत्या के संबंध में पहलवान और ओलंपिक पदक विजेता सुशील कुमार के मुकदमे को ‘सनसनीखेज’ बनाने से मीडिया को रोकने और आपराधिक मामलों की रिपोर्टिंग के लिए उचित नियम बनाने के अनुरोध वाली याचिका पर सुनवाई से शुक्रवार को इनकार कर दिया और कहा कि ऐसे व्यक्ति के लिए जनहित याचिका दायर नहीं की जा सकती जिसे ‘‘सब जानते’’ हैं।

मुख्य न्यायाधीश डी एन पटेल और न्यायमूर्ति ज्योति सिंह की पीठ ने कहा कि एक ‘‘जागरूक व्यक्ति’’ सुशील कुमार की तरफ से दायर याचिका में दावा किया गया है कि मीडिया ने हत्या के ऐसे मामले में अपनी रिपोर्टिंग से उनकी छवि बिगाड़ी है जिसमें वह एक आरोपी हैं। अदालत ने कहा, ‘‘आप एक व्यक्ति के लिए जनहित याचिका दायर नहीं कर सकते। हमें एक जागरूक व्यक्ति की तरह से मुकदमे पर सुनवाई करने की कोई वजह नजर नहीं आती।’’ इसके साथ ही अदालत ने कानून के एक छात्र द्वारा दायर याचिका का निस्तारण कर दिया।

कानून के छात्र ने आरोप लगाया था कि छत्रसाल स्टेडियम में हुए झगड़े के संबंध में सुशील कुमार खिलाफ मामले की मीडिया रिपोर्टिंग से उनके करियर तथा साख को नुकसान पहुंचा है। छत्रसाल स्टेडियम में हुए इस झगड़े में 23 वर्षीय एक पहलवान की मौत हो गई थी। दिल्ली की एक अदालत ने 23 मई को कुमार को हत्या के संबंध में पूछताछ के लिए छह दिन की पुलिस हिरासत में भेज दिया था और कहा था कि उनके खिलाफ आरोप गंभीर है और कोई भी कानून से ऊपर नहीं है।

क्या है मामला
सुशील कुमार और उनके साथियों ने यहां छत्रसाल स्टेडियम में चार और पांच मई की दरम्यानी रात को पहलवान सागर धनखड़ और उसके दो दोस्तों सोनू और अमित कुमार पर कथित तौर पर हमला कर दिया था। बाद में चोट के कारण सागर की मौत हो गई थी। कुमार को सह-आरोपी अजय के साथ 23 मई को बाहरी दिल्ली के मुंडका से गिरफ्तार किया गया था। इससे पहले दो बार ओलंपिक पदक जीत चुके कुमार करीब तीन हफ्तों तक फरार रहे।
