आजादी से पूर्व जब किसानों का गेहूं लेने के लिए अंग्रेजों ने 40 किलोग्राम गेहूं का भाव छह रुपए देना चाहते थे तो दीनबंधु छोटू राम ने गेंहू देने से मना कर दिया था। बाद में अंग्रेजों को झुकना पड़ा व किसानों के 40 किलोग्राम गेंहू का भाव छह रुपए से बढ़ाकर 11 रूपए करने पर मजबूर किया था।

सोनीपत: सेवानिवृत्त आईएएस डा.सुखबीर सिंह ने कहा कि दीनबंधु छोटू राम केवल हिंदुस्तान के साथ साथ पाकिस्तान में भी प्रसिद्ध है। पाकिस्तान की हॉकी टीम दीनबंधु छोटू राम के गांव जाना चाहती थी। उन्होंने इंजीनियरिंग व पॉलिटेक्निक कॉलेज प्रारंभ कराए। शिक्षा को बढ़ावा दिया उन्होंने अपने मासिक वेतन से मेधावी विद्यार्थियों को स्कॉलरशिप प्रदान किया।

वे दीनबंधु छोटू राम विज्ञान एवं प्रौद्योगिकी विश्वविद्यालय, मुरथल में दीनबंधु छोटू राम सतत विकास चेयर द्वारा दीनबंधु छोटू राम की स्मृति में 14वें व्याख्यानमाला में बोल रहे थे। मुख्य अतिथि व मुख्य वक्ता वरिष्ठ सेवानिवृत्त आईएएस डा.सुखबीर सिंह थे, जबकि कार्यक्रम की अध्यक्षता विश्वविद्यालय के कुलपति प्रो.राजेंद्र कुमार अनायत ने की। डा.सिंह ने कहा कि दीनबंधु छोटू राम की ख्याति पाकिस्तान में जिन्ना से ज्यादा है। इसलिए उन्हें रहबरे आजम की ख्याति से नवाजा गया था। पाकिस्तान की टीम के सदस्यों ने कहा कि उन्होंने हमें आबाद किया, हमारा कर्जा माफ किया, हमें जमीन दिलाई। इसी कारण हम आज भी दीनबंधु छोटू राम के ऋणी हैं।

डा.सिंह को स्मृति चिन्ह देकर सम्मानित किया। विश्वविद्यालय की प्रथम महिला इंजीनियर रजनी अनायत, विभिन्न संकायों के अधिष्ठाता, विभागाध्यक्ष, प्रोफेसर व गैर शैक्षणिक स्टाफ के अधिकारी व कर्मचारी उपस्थित थे।
