सांसद दीपेन्द्र हुड्डा ने निगम चुनाव में कांग्रेस के मेयर पद के प्रत्याशी निखिल मदान व वार्ड प्रत्याशियों के पक्ष में आदर्श नगर, सेक्टर-15, सिक्का कॉलोनी, 4 मारला, मॉडल टाउन, आईटीआई चौक, काठ मंडी, धानक बस्ती वार्ड न. 2 आदि जगहों पर चुनाव प्रचार किया। चुनाव प्रचार के दौरान मिले जबरदस्त जनसमर्थन से उत्साहित होकर सांसद हुड्डा ने कहा कि इस बार सोनीपत में युवा सोच जीतेगी। पिछले 6 साल से नगर निगम में भारी भ्रष्टाचार से त्रस्त सोनीपत की जनता कांग्रेस प्रत्याशियों को बड़े बहुमत से चुनने का मन बना चुकी है। राई से विधायक रहे स्व. चौ. सूरजमल आंतिल के पुत्र बिजेंद्र आंतिल ने अपने अनेकों समर्थकों के साथ जजपा छोड़ी और चौ. भूपेंद्र सिंह हुड्डा व कांग्रेस को समर्थन देने की घोषणा की। इसके अलावा आज हरियाणा के पूर्व मुख्यमंत्री चौ. भूपेंद्र सिंह हुड्डा की राजनीति से प्रभावित होकर हरिभगवान भोला, कुलदीप भोला, रोशन लाल बतरा, शमी भोला समेत सैंकड़ों लोगों ने भाजपा छोड़ दीपेन्द्र हुड्डा की मौजूदगी में कांग्रेस का दामन थामा।
दीपेंद्र हुड्डा ने कहा कि सोनीपत में इस बार सबसे युवा नगर निगम होगी। 16 पार्षद ऐसे हैं जो 35 साल से कम आयु के हैं। जो नौजवान, संघर्षशील, ईमानदार और कर्मठ युवा हैं।

उन्होंने सीधा सवाल किया कि सरकार बताये सोनीपत के लिए 6 सालों में क्या किया। सांसद दीपेन्द्र हुड्डा ने आगे कहा कि नया काम करने की तो बात तो दूर है, कांग्रेस के राज में सोनीपत का जो विकास हो रहा था उस विकास की रफ़्तार पर भी ब्रेक लगा दिया। उन्होंने कहा कि हमारी सरकार आने से पहले सोनीपत में एक गवर्नमेंट कॉलेज भी नहीं था, लेकिन सरकार बनने के बाद दर्जन भर यूनिवर्सिटी बना दी गई। खानपुर, मुरथल, जींद की यूनिवर्सिटी इसमें शामिल है। इसी तरह 6 मेडिकल कॉलेज बने, खानपुर मेडिकल कॉलेज, करनाल मेडिकल कॉलेज आदि। इंजीनियरिंग कॉलेज को यूनिवर्सिटी का रूप दिया गया। इसके अलावा बुनियादी सुविधाओं से जुड़े बिजली, पानी, सड़क, स्कूल, स्वास्थ्य, सिंचाई, कृषि और व्यापार हर क्षेत्र में जमकर विकास हुआ। सच तो ये है कि प्रदेश की मौजूदा सरकार के पास पूरे हरियाणा में गिनवाने के लिए कोई भी नया व बड़ा काम नहीं है।
