यह सात रंग इस प्रकार के हैं
VIOLET जामुनी
INDIGO आसमानी
BLUE नीला
GREEN हरा
YELLOW पीला
ORANGE नारंगी
RED लाल
इन सात अंग्रेजी शब्द के प्रथम अक्षर से VIBGYOR शब्द बना है। इस समस्त संसार का निर्माण भी इन्हीं सात रंगों से हुआ है। आकाश में नज़र आने वाले सर्व ग्रह और उन ग्रहों से संबंधित तमाम रत्नों की उत्पत्ति भी इन्हीं सात रंगों के प्रकाश किरणों से ही हुई है।
स्वयं परमात्मा प्रकाशमय है। समस्त ब्रह्मांड किरणमय है और प्रकाश किरण रूपी परमेश्वर सर्व शक्तिमान, सर्वज्ञ, सर्वव्यापी है।
अति पुरातन ग्रंथ कर्मपुराण के कथन के अनुसार यह प्रमाणित होता है कि संपूर्ण दृश्य तथा अदृश्य वस्तुएँ इन सात किरणों से निकलने वाले प्रकाश किरणों से निर्मित हैं। प्रकाश से ही जीवन है और प्रकाश से ही विनाश इंद्रधनुष्य की ये सात किरणें सर्वव्यापी हैं। लेकिन उसे खुली आँखों से नहीं देख सकते। उसे बिलोरी काँच के लौलक (Prism) से ही देखने पर इन तमाम विश्व व्यापी रंगों का रमणीय दृश्य नज़र आयेगा।
मानवप्राणी, पशुपक्षी, वृक्ष, नदियाँ, पर्वत इत्यादि समग्र सृष्टि इन इंद्र धनुष्य के सात रंगों से प्रभावित है। हर एक वस्तु का मूल जन्म विश्वव्यापी सात रंगों के अस्तित्व से है। सूर्य, चंद्र, मंगल तथा अन्य सभी ग्रह और उनसे संबंधित रत्नों का जन्मस्थान यही सात रंग है।
लाल रंग से सूर्य, नारंगी रंग से चंद्र, पीले से मंगल, हरे रंग से बुध, आसमानी से गुरु, नील से शुक्र और जामुनी रंग से शनि की उत्पत्ति हुई है और जो ग्रहों का घनी भूत रंग है, वही रंग उन ग्रहों से संबंधित रत्नों का है। हम खुली आँखों देखते हैं, वह उन रत्नों के असली रंग नही हैं। लौलक से (Prism) ही देखने से रत्नों के असली रंग नज़र आते हैं।
