मुंबई/डॉ ज्योति माने: भारत गया (बिहार) में गोमेद विपुल मात्रामें पाये जाते हैं। इसमें धब्बे, चरि जीरम कम होते लेकिन पानी कम होता है और पारभासक होते हैं। रंग भी कालापन लिये भूरा होता है। राजस्थान में टोंक के पास भी गोमेद पाये जाते हैं, लेकिन यह निम्न कोटी के होते हैं। आजकल ओडिसा में भी उच्च श्रेणी के गोमेद पाये जाते हैं औषधी गुण वायुशूल, मूलव्याधि, कफ, ज्वर के लिए गोमेद लाभदायक है।
अजीर्णता, मानसिक दुर्बलता, चर्म रोग पर गोमेद फायदेमंद साबित होता है। दैवी शक्ति गोमेद रत्न धारण करने वाले व्यक्ति को प्रबल शत्रुका भय नहीं रहता। वह सामने आने से घबराता है। इससे सुख, संपत्ति और वैभव प्राप्त होता है। शरीर स्वास्थ को लाभ पहुँचाता है। हिंम्र प्राणियों से रक्षण होता है। ऐसी मान्यता है कि गोमेद धारण करने वालेको रक्त स्राव नहीं होता। मध्यकालीन लोगों का ऐसा विश्वास था कि इस रत्न को धारण करने पर मनुष्य को प्रत्येक कार्य में सफलता प्राप्त होगी। पाचन शक्ति अच्छी रहेगी। पीलिया, जलोदर रोग और हानिकारक कल्पनासे मुक्ति मिलेगी ।
