यह रचना उस वक्त लिखी गई थी जब बाबरी मस्जिद का ढांचा गिरा था । तब मैं आर्मी के अंदर सर्विस कर रहा था। मेरी पोस्टिंग आगरा में थी। उसी दौरान इस रचना का लेखन हुआ। विचार आ रहे थे कि इंसान को भगवान ने ना हिंदू बनाया, ना सिख बनाया, ना इसाई बनाया, ना मुसलमान बनाया, इसने तो अपने कारखाने में केवल एक इंसान बनाया।
लेकिन इंसान ने भगवान के नाम पर क्या किया कि सबको हैरान कर दिया। यह बात भले ही पुरानी है। लेकिन बात आज भी उतनी ही ताजी है, जितनी कई दशकों पहले थी।
