सत्तारूढ़ सरकार ने यह दावा तब किया जब विपक्ष ने कृषि कानूनों के खिलाफ साल भर के विरोध के दौरान जान गंवाने वाले किसानों के परिजनों के लिए मुआवजे की मांग की। कांग्रेस नेता राहुल गांधी ने इससे पहले शुक्रवार को प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी के नेतृत्व वाली सरकार को मृतक किसानों के परिवारों को वित्तीय सहायता देने में अनिच्छा के लिए लताड़ा था।
वह 400 से अधिक मृतक किसानों की सूची के साथ आए और दावा किया कि कांग्रेस शासित पंजाब सरकार ने उनके परिवारों को मुआवजा दिया है। उन्होंने कहा, ‘सरकार कहती है कि उसके पास कोई रिकॉर्ड नहीं है। हमारे पास 503 किसानों का डेटा है। सरकार चाहे तो हमसे लिस्ट ले सकती है। पंजाब सरकार ने 403 परिवारों को मुआवजा और 152 प्रभावित परिवारों को नौकरी दी है।”
