यह कहानी है एक समर्पण की, एक श्रद्धा की, मानवता को समर्पित कर्मयोग की है। देवदास गोस्वामी की यह कहानी उन्हीं की जुबानी सुनते हैं। वे बताते हैं कि सन 1978 में देवदास गोस्वामी अपने घर से भागकर गए थे। दर-दर की ठोकरें खाई। काफी लंबा समय रेलवे स्टेशन पर रहे खाना मिला ना पानी भूखे पड़े रहने के बाद उन्होंने एक व्यक्ति से पूरी मांगी पहली बार तो उस व्यक्ति ने खुशी खुशी में दे दी। परंतु दूसरी बार मांगने पर उसने खरी खरी सुनाई उस दिन वह भूखे प्यासे रहे।

गोस्वामी बताते हैं कि यहीं से संकल्प लिया कि जितना संभव हो उतने लोगों को भोजन करवाएंगे। उनके आश्रम में हर रोज लगभग 350 लोग भोजन करते हैं। उनके रहने के लिए व्यवस्था की जाती है। बस एक प्यार एक सम्मान के लिए करते हैं। उनके आश्रम में जितने भी अक्षम लोग हैं उन्हें अपने बारे में और अपनी पिछली जिंदगी बारे में कुछ याद नहीं वह लोग नहीं जानते कि वह कौन हैं, देवदास और उनकी अर्धांगिनी तारा बताती हैं कि उनके अनुभव के अनुसार उनके आश्रमों में केवल वह लोग हैं जो परिवारिक तनाव से परेशान हैं जो संपत्ति ना होने के कारण मुसीबत के हालात में गुजर रहे हैं।
