विश्वविद्यालय के कुलपति ने कहा कि चौ.छोटू राम ने कहा कि था कि उनका जन्मदिन बसंत पंचमी के दिन मनाया जाए। इसलिये विश्वविद्यालय में प्रतिवर्ष बसंत पंचमी के दिन क्वार्टर मैराथन का आयोजित किया जाता था। चौ.छोटू राम ने बेटी बचाओं, बेटी पढाओं अभियान चलाया था, उस समय बेटियों को पढाया नहीं जाता था। सरकारी स्कूल के शिक्षकों को निर्देश दिए थे कि वे गांव में जाकर लड़कियो को पढाने के लिए माता पिता को प्रोत्साहित करें। उन्होंने समाज में फैली बुराइयों, समस्याओं व गलत चीजों के खिलाफ एक बुलंद आवाज़ के रूप में उभरे।

उन्होंने कहा कि चौ.छोटू राम अक्सर कहते थे कि ढाका से लेकर पेशावर तक अच्छा शिक्षक कोई भी मिल जाए, उसे शिक्षक लगा देना चाहिए। प.उत्तर प्रदेश व प्रदेश में उन्होंने काफी संख्या में शिक्षण संस्थान खुलवाए। खेल निदेशक डा. बिरेंद्र सिंह हुड्डा ने कहा कि विश्वविद्यालय में अब तक 10 क्वार्टर मैराथन करवाई जा चुकी हैं। इस बार 40 मिनट की रन एंड वॉक का आयोजन किया गया है। अबकि बार पांच वर्ष से लेकर 65 वर्ष के व्यक्तियों ने भाग लिया। मैराथन में प्रथम महिला इंजीनियर रजनी अनायत व पूर्व रजिस्ट्रार डा.आर डी.कौशिक, शैक्षणिक अधिष्ठाता प्रो.डी.पी, तिवारी, छात्र कल्याण अधिष्ठाता प्रो.विजय शर्मा, चीफ वार्डन प्रो.सुखदीप सिंह, प्रो.अनिल खुराना, प्रो.सुमन सांगवान, प्रो.पवन दहिया, डा.राजेश्वर दास,डा.सुदेश चौधरी,डा.पूनम श्योराण, डा.ममता भगत,कार्यकारी अभियंता बलबीर सिंह श्योकंद आदि उपस्थित थे।
