जीटी रोड गन्नौर से स्वागत समारोह की शुरुआत हुई, खुली जीप में कोच कुलदीप पहलवान नवीन अपने भाई प्रवीण के साथ लोगों का अभिवादन स्वीकार कर रहे थे। रिटायर सुबेदार मेजर निरंकारी संत रामेश्वर शर्मा ने आशीर्वाद। यहां यह काफिला आगे बढा। गांव गुमड, अहीर माजरा मोड, शेखपुरा मोड, भांवर मोड़, समसपुर गामड़ा, खुबडू, सरढाना मोड़ से जगह जगह अपने लाडले को लोगों ने फूलो की नोटों माला पहनाई 21 किलोमीटर का सफर साढे तीन घंटे में पुरा कर मुख्य सम्मान समारोह में शामिल हुए।
पहली बार गांव पुगथला में किसी को किसी भी खेल में अंतर्राष्ट्रीय पदक मिला है। खुशी का यह आलम रहा कि महिलाओं ने नृत्य किया, पुष्प वर्ष की नवीन और उसके कोच कुलदीप का स्वागत किया। मंच से पुरुषोत्तम नंबरदार ने घोषणा की कि सबसे पहले गांव पुगथला की ओर से वयोवृद्ध पंडित धनाराम, चौधरी महा सिंह, चौधरी राजा रघुवीर सिंह, हवा सिंह ने चांदी की गदा और तीन बार सरपंच रहे सुरेश शर्मा ने 11हजार रुपये देकर कॉमनवेल्थ में स्वर्ण पदक विजेता गोल्डन ब्वॉय नवीन मलिक को आशीर्वाद दिया। पहलवान नवीन के कोच कुलदीप सिंह पहलवान, कश्मीर सिंह, शमशेर सिंह, बलवान खत्री, पहलवान सुरेश को पंडित प्रकाश, भल्ले सिंह, चौधरी रामनिवास, पंडित राम कुमार, नरेश वाल्मीकि आदि ने कुश्ती के कोच व पहलवानों को पगड़ी पहनाई सम्मानित किया।
मंच का संचालन नंबरदार पुरुषोत्तम शर्मा ने किया पंडित कुलदीप, राजू मिस्त्री, गुमड़ के पहलवान देवेंद्र पहल, चौधरी मौजीराम मलिक नवीन के ताऊ, सरढाना के पूर्व सरपंच चांद सिंह, अजीत, वासुदेव बजाना, सतपाल पहलवान आदि ने नवीन को सम्मानित किया। नवीन की मां गुणवती, पिता धर्मपाल को अपने लाड़ले की उपलब्धि पर इतनी खुशी हुई कि आंखें झलक आई। सांय छह बजे तक यह सम्मन समारोह चलने का कार्यक्रम चलता रहा।
